1-2-1 Pilates Sessions

Having a 1-2-1 session is a pre-requisite for joining our Pilates classes. These are specifically designed to make sure you get the most from your classes and also to make sure your instructor understands your needs and any possible limitations.

Some people prefer our 1-2-1 sessions instead of joining a class. If this is you, book 4 sessions to get a reduced rate of £50 per session.

Middle aged guy with low back pain?  Me too, until eight years ago when I went to see Liz Jowsey.  I had suffered back pain on and off for years, and then had surgery to trim a disc.  It worked, for a bit, but then the pain came back.  I went to Liz thinking nothing could be done.  I was just someone who had back pain and, it seemed, always would.  Me? Pilates?  No chance!  But I was desperate and so gave it a go.  Saw an improvement within six months — going to one class a week — and by the end of the year was pain free for the first time in years and have been since.  Middle aged guy with low back pain?  Do yourself a favour.  Book and appointment with Liz and the team and get it sorted.

Cost: £10.50 per class

“Pilates on Zoom is like a private lesson in your home, it works really well and the instructions are so clear as always , excellent Liz”

“I have been attending Liz’s Pilates classes since they started at the Hallamshire. They are fantastic- very helpful with posture, inner strength and wellbeing. But what has really come through in the last very difficult few weeks is the sense of community and friendship that is present in our group – this would not have happened without Liz’s hard work”

All classes, 1-2-1 sessions and assessments are held at the Studio at Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club, 716 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield S11 8TA.

What is Pilates Matwork?

Pilates exercises target the deep postural muscles to re-balance the bMusculatureody, build great core stability and ensure correct postural alignment which in turn restores natural, normal movement.

In a Pilates class the focus is on the Transverses Abdominis, Diaphragm, the muscles of the pelvic floor and a deep back muscle called Multifidus. Together these muscles form a natural corset around your centre which stabilise the lumbar spine, building strength from the inside out.

Pilates helps reshape your body, promoting a longer, leaner, more toned look and achieves the perfect balance between strength and flexibility. It is also a great way to relieve stress and unwanted tension.

Pilates is the perfect form of exercise for everyone, from the athlete looking to enhance their performance and avoid injury to first-time exercisers or those returning to exercise after injury or illness. It is especially recommended for those suffering back problems.

The benefits include:

  • Improved posture and body awareness
  • Increased joint mobility and flexibility
  • A flatter stomach
  • Enhanced performance for athletes
  • Relaxation and improved well being
  •  Improved movement patterns and balance
  • Greater strength and muscle tone
  •  Less incidence of back pain
  • Fabulous muscle tone especially in the bottom, thighs and stomach
